If you are 70% certain you are leaving your job, give notice. You cannot move quickly in recruitment if you cannot use your current school as a reference.
It is very rare for schools to be vindictive on a reference. Vindictive referees usually come across as the problem, not the candidate.
Give notice in-person, not on email. Set a time, and if you need to, write down what you want to say. I would also suggest to go to the meeting with an official letter of resignation. In the meeting, if it is mentioned you need a written letter, then you will be prepared.
After you give notice in-person, send an email to recap the meeting and create the record.
Most social media is dead to me, but you can find me on LinkedIn and Youtube.
