Salary Transparency
I find it really odd that employers waste hours of time doing interviews without being upfront about compensation. This is inefficient, and I believe it is an emotional choice, not a logical choice. How can a candidate know if they can afford to take a position without knowing the compensation range?
If you are looking at a position this late in the recruitment season, I suggest politely acquiring the salary range before committing to an application process. Applications take time and interviews compete for your time. Your time is finite.
For this to work, you need an email address from the school. If they have not provided an HR contact, you may need to research the HR team on the school’s website. If an email is not possible, then try to get the interview. In the first interview confirm the salary range.
Sample:
HR,
I am very interested in applying for [Insert Job]. I would like to clarify the salary range for this position to ensure it meets both of our expectations. Any information you can confidentially provide will be greatly appreciated.
Humbly yours,
[I would add a link to a LinkedIn profile under my name if your LinkedIn is up to date]
Many schools have an application field that asks for the previous salary or salary expectations. Oddly, I have found they do not seem to reference this when making offers.
