I've been lucky to interview with a male director in the past who was mindful of this and we had a very frank discussion that led us both to realize with disappointment that it wasn't going to be a good fit for that location and the time. If he hadn't been honest, it would have been a difficult and upsetting transition that would have left me either completely socially isolated or in a very costly transportation situation.
