I’ve been happily surprised to have saved money in every single country that I’ve lived in - even expensive places like Oman, and places with low salaries like Mexico. In the end, it’s really up to each person to budget and save what they can for retirement, especially if they end up working internationally their entire career without a pension waits for them. And I strongly believe it’s doable in just about any country.
"I am making less than I made in 1998."~ School Admin I recently spoke with. I would like to tell you that is the only one, but it isn't. I am not going to mention the school or country, but when I do the research on living abroad and see places that would at best require a decent 6-figure salary for an expat, it is a red flag for people working in education.
